Zachary Gillan Not too techy, not too doomy, not too weird, but just techy, doomy, and weird enough to be exceptionally interesting. Killer vibes, in the parlance of our times. Favorite track: Tautology.
BlueManIndividual

BlueManIndividual This is one of the most slept on albums ever and I will not die until everyone knows how good it is.
Tampertronics

Tampertronics This blew my head off and now I have no head. Favorite track: Phantom Indigo.
Dyl The Funky Homosexual
Dyl The Funky Homosexual thumbnail
Dyl The Funky Homosexual Dissonant blackend death metal with almost gaze-y textures. An album where one’s interpretations of its roots are radically different, yet adheres to a coherent vision that is both malleable yet meticulously structured. Few albums in extreme metal have felt this numbingly serene. Favorite track: Tautology.
Darknight

Darknight Phantom Indigo was an instant pre order for me,they are just such an amazing band and entity of extreme metal. A definite AOTY nomination,Seputus are just pushing the envelope of what metal music can actually do and Doug Moore's vocals are just INSANE,Seputus RULE!! Favorite track: Tautology.
Lorenzo
Lorenzo thumbnail
Lorenzo A dreamlike nightmare of dissonant death metal formed as a wall of barrage like riffing, insane vocals, crawling bass, and thunderous drums all spun in an off kilter direction. It is blackened, sometimes grinding, but still none of those things.

Meticulous in execution, but still seemingly disjointed and vomited at will, this is a complete step up from their previous. Claustrophobic, yet still open enough to bring a sense of constant unease of what lays next.

1.
The will to live peels your eyes wide Strings your shaky limbs upright Drives you forth to face the day Strips off the shadow, drowns you in light The lusting breath seizing your throat The primal drive that winds your heart The will to live speaks through shame Makes a puppet of reason Scourges you with the faces, the names Of every soul you’ve ever loved Subconscious sovereign  Cunning of the cornered Master that lashes life Onwards, onwards You long for death, and yet you live Chained to the earth Fated to labor from the moment of birth A servant of the will to live Reluctant vessel Surrender your wish to break You engine of conquest  Wearing a coward’s face Your instincts, your bridle They revive you, their cringing remit You will know no peace this day You will learn what it means to submit
2.
It all cycles again The pattern obtains from beginning to end No thought, no Reflection: you do what you do, you go where you go As banal as an addiction As familiar as a childhood home Every playback brings less friction At the dawn, when you arise alone To perform your daily derelictions All your rhythms indulged, all your time disowned It’s the same old song You know it in your bones Your voice, your limbs Respond on their own Every refrain deepens the groove Creates a coda to return to Rote and rigid, your beat restricted To side work, paying melancholia’s dues This is what you’ve become Trite automaton, willfully numb And redundant, an echo repeating its woes You do what you do, you go where you go
3.
Tautology 09:59
When you were young, you sought and strayed ‘Til the hurt turned you inwards Where you don’t need to find your way You give it shape, you’re the mapmaker Petty tyrant, private domain Embargoed by sentry mirrors Your iron mind has the whole say You ask the questions, give the answers The world is cold, but solitude is control A self-contained system, fixed and remote No wasting or wanting here; care for yourself Rise by your bootstraps; make your own wealth  Sewn up, stockaded, and secure Withdrawn from the world, becoming more pure Anchoritism: the engineer’s way Reuse, recycle, know your place Learn from recursion, save more space Audit your work; root out decay Tested, tightened, optimized Your hermit’s yearning near realized You hungry loop, you autophage Cold solo Möbius machine Thrive on isolation, grow more lean Toil; build your coiling purgatory  After thousands and thousands of iterations Your program’s perfected, cleansed of complications Your vision’s crystalline distillation An opus devoted to automation And in the control room, you’re alone Enthralled in your womb, swaddled on your throne Your labyrinth is set, oh fragile dreamer One way out: further inwards
4.
5.
The curtains rise The kliegs glare down You take your place  In the background You know your role,  You play it out Waiting patient in the wings In harmony you're cast to sing In duet your timbre drowns An underscore in the background Will-pinned to the playwright's prose Within your blocking you are bound You resolve to hold your pose You grit your teeth, you gut it out No monologue reveals your mind No stakes arise to weigh you down To the lead you yield the lights Your ends lie loose In the background Your scripting is its own reward To dress the set, to know the score Second, servant, sacrifice Spinning thrall to blinding crown The audience will not recall Your face Your name Your fact at all The arc of drama finds its end Without you in the denouement You leave the stage without a bow A cameo in the background
6.
Lurid outgrowths of shadow Scorched into shape by the inner light You tend forever; the faith you hold To stoke the flame of the vivid lie They blot out the sky Inside you Towers of pain, resentments on high Billowing clouds of obsession Smoke from the pits of sin That smolder deep within Perverted liturgical pyres Chanting your name Through the day, into the night Echoes of shame Resonate in the hollows of your mind None of them real, your radiant sorrows Garish priests in hollow ritual Shimmering ghosts in violet vestments Spirits cloaked in phantom indigo Your triumphs and failures, your desires and spites Spectral transcriptions of imagined delight All intoned from tomes bound by intimate air Ephemeral records, never really there Into the void all of them flow The moment you are no more Molten slurry of your private lore Slag of the self, glowing phantom indigo

about

Featuring electrifying compositions, drums, and guitars from Stephen Schwegler (Pyrrhon, Weeping Sores), ferocious and dynamic vocals from Doug Moore (Pyrrhon, Weeping Sores, Glorious Depravity), subterranean and serpentining bass from Erik Malave (Pyrrhon) - along with standout guest performances from members of Artificial Brain, Replicant, and more - Phantom Indigo shows the band at the height of innovative mastery and redefining extreme music.

For almost 50 minutes, Phantom Indigo takes the listener on a mind-bending, psychological and psychedelic thrill-ride with genre-defying jagged edges and deliberately disjointed musicality - embodying the album's intangible namesake. Inspired by the book, Hallucinations by late neurologist, Oliver Sacks, Phantom Indigo, “is a window into the kind of “mental loops” that can occur from repeated fixation, meaningless daily routine and negative mental thought patterns, comments SEPUTUS founder, Stephen Schwegler. “The thoughts themselves are phantoms, and the spectrum of feelings are a color that cannot concisely be expressed."
